KIVAM's students successfully represented Taiwan in the 7th International Turkish Language Olympiad in Ankara, the capital city of Turkey and were awarded two bronze medals and one honorable mention. Turkish Language Olympiad was first held in 2003 with the participation of 17 countries. This year the organization held for the seventh time took place between May 27 - June 10, 2009 and hosted students from 115 countries. The participants competed with each other in 13 different categories such as singing, speaking, writing, general knowledge, poem recitation, creative skills, etc. Our student, Lin Ying-Zih of Grade 8 got a bronze medal in poem recitation, and another bronze medal came in speaking category by Cai You-Ting of Grade 7.
Cheng Chiao-An of Grade 7 got an honorable mention in singing category. Besides these awards, and what is probably more important, they have got many foreign friends. This extraordinary language festival is supported by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture of Turkey and many other governmental and non-governmental organizations of the host country. Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Prime Minister of Turkey, honored the award ceremony with seven ministers of the government. There has been a consensus among writers, academicians, high officials and foreign media that the Turkish Language Olympiad is acting as a platform to show what can be done for peace in the world. For sure, with the opportunity of participation in such a colorful international program, our students got a lifelong experience which broadens their vision.
